Student

Hello guys!
My name is Lamar Salameh and I was born and raised in Palestine. I grew up watching animated movies and shows with my family non-stop and I've grown attached to it and that's got me interested in animation! I didn't go with the BFA program because I am not the best at drawing. However, coding and programming always seemed so interesting to me and I have always wanted to know the behind the scenes of how technology works so I am doing animation from the CS side to combine both interests of mine! I also fit into the stereotype of staring at a screen for hours so it is kind of perfect for me :))

Coding has so many downs and ups, but the projects we work on are so worth it,  because we create fun programs like the sand game in CS111 for instance. It was a struggle to work on such sophisticated projects however with the help of the TAs and many conversations with Ducky it felt like my hard work paid off and I enjoyed what I created with the code. What interests me the most about computer science generally is that it helps you sharpen your mind to solve any problem you encounter with technology using coding logic. I was nervous to get into computer science because I had zero experience with coding and little to no knowledge about programming languages and how they work, but BYU CS courses provide students the opportunity to learn the basics and you can grow from there (and it paid off for me pretty well!!) If I can do it you can do it!

Outside of computer science, I enjoy swimming, baking, playing basketball, reading, and watching movies. I prefer to swim in pools more than the ocean because I feel like I am going to drown every time (though I still love the ocean). I also love trying out new baking recipes especially when it comes to pastries or desserts. I haven't played much basketball recently but I do miss staying active. Reading and watching movies are like dimensions for entering different worlds with different realities, cultures, and perspectives and I enjoy doing that!
looking forward to meeting you all!
